Product Description
One of the staples of the diet in many parts of New Guinea is sago flour made from a palm tree. The pulp is pounded and the starch rinsed out in large spathe troughs. The troughs are held in place on a framework with these clips. Utilitarian yes but also imbued with spirituality and ancestor images. This one has an ancestor face and a hornbill. It has a nice patina and is ca 1970. It is 22 inches tall, mounted.
